HTC joined with Microsoft to show off its Windows Phone 8X and 8S smartphones based on the Windows Phone 8 operating system.

HTC unveiled two models of Windows Phone
Ahead of Microsoft’s other big Windows 8 news for tablets slated for October 25, HTC officially joined the Windows Phone 8 brigade, announcing two new Windows Phones at an event in New York.
HTC’s Windows Phone 8X and 8S feature Microsoft’s latest mobile software and sleek hardware design. The 8X model includes a 4.3-inch HD-resolution “super LCD2 screen” with Gorilla Glass 2 the company says offers protection from everyday bumps and scrapes. Additional optical lamination reduces reflections and glare designed to ensure clarity in different lighting conditions.
The 8S model features a “bright super LCD” 4-inch screen with Gorilla Glass.
The phones make use of Windows 8 “Live Tiles” and Microsoft said the HTC phones will be the “signature” smartphones for the Windows Phone 8 OS. Availability is set for November via 150 carriers across 50 countries. AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile in the U.S. will carry the new models. Pricing has not been announced.
HTC joins Samsung and Nokia, the other two big phone makers to announce Windows Phone 8 models.
"Pairing HTC's beautiful new Windows Phone 8X and 8S with our brand is a big milestone for both companies," said Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft. "Together we are offering customers a clear choice and a truly unique experience. I'm thrilled to take our longstanding partnership to the next level."
HTC’s CEO was equally bullish, promising the new phones are ready to take on competitors.
"We've been inspired by Windows Phone 8 to create new smartphones that give the platform the iconic design and personality it deserves," said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.  "Windows Phone has clearly emerged as one of the top mobile ecosystems and is competitive against any other smartphone platform in the world."
Colors, camera, sound
There will be plenty of color choices for buyers.
The Windows Phone 8X will come in a variety of colors including California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow.  The Windows Phone 8S by HTC will be available in Domino, Fiesta Red, Atlantic Blue and High-Rise Gray.
A more practical feature for users is the camera. For the first time, HTC said it’s including a 2.1mp, f/2.0 aperture, 88° ultra-wide angle front-facing camera that allows up to four people and more to be captured at once. It also supports 1080p video capture.
The rear camera sports an 8mp CMOS sensor with backside-illumination (BSI) for improved low-light performance, along with an f/2.0 aperture, 28mm lens and a dedicated imaging chip.
A physical shutter button makes it quick and easy to capture spontaneous action, even if the phone is locked.
The Windows Phone 8X by HTC includes Beats Audio with “a unique audio amplifier” powering the 3.5mm audio jack and the speaker designed to boost the audio signal for better sound whether you're listening to music, playing a game or watching a video
