CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Police are warning residents of the Kenwood and Hyde Park neighborhoods on the South Side to be on the lookout after two similar smart-phone robberies took place earlier this month.
In both attacks, two male suspects asked the victims for the time and then took their smart phones by force, police said.
The two incidents happened between 3 and 4 p.m. on July 2 in the 1100 block of East 59th Street and on July 3 in the 4600 block of South Lake Park Avenue, police said.
Police describe the suspects as black males between the ages of 16 and 21.
One of the suspects had dreadlocks, weighed between 140 and 180 pounds and stood about 5-foot-8, police said. The other suspect is between 5-foot-6 and 6-1 and between 140 and 170 pounds.
Police encourage residents near the area to be aware of their surroundings and to refrain from showing expensive electronic devices to strangers.
Anyone with information on the attacks is asked to call (312) 747-8380.
