Mobile phone giant Nokia has begun shipping two new smartphones in its consumer-targeted N series: the N93 and N73. Both of them run S60 Third Edition on top of the Symbian OS, but other than that they have little in common.
Nokia N93
One of these new smartphones -- the N93 -- Nokia describes as "the ultimate mobile device for spontaneous video recording." This device features a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, DVD-like video capture, and 3x optical zoom.
Users can connect this smartphone directly to a TV (PAL/NTSC) for a wide-screen movie experience or upload images and video to online albums or blogs. Moreover, N93 owners are able to create high-quality home movies and burn them to DVD with the included Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 software.
It is able to handle more than just video, though. The N93 includes a stereo FM radio and, of course, a player for digital music files.
It has a clamshell design with a 2.4-inch, QVGA main screen and 1.1-inch secondary display on its exterior. This device also has 50 MB of internal storage and a miniSD slot if that isn't enough. This tri-band GSM smartphone sports both EDGE and WCDMA. In addition, it includes Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and Bluetooth short-range wireless networking.More information on the N93available on Nokia's web site.Nokia N73
While the N93 is focused on video, the other new model -- the N73 -- puts a greater emphasis on audio. It offer integrated stereo speakers with 3D sound and an FM radio, too.But Nokia isn't ignoring image capture. This smartphone also includes a 3.2 megapixel (2048 by 1536 pixel) camera with Carl Zeiss optics capable of creating up to 10-inch-by-8-inch pictures.
The N73 has a different form-factor than the N93. Instead of a clamshell shape, it uses a "candybar" design with a numberpad below its 2.4-inch screen.
It includes 42 MB of storage and a miniSD slot.
The quad-band GSM phone offers WCDMA support and Bluetooth short-range wireless networking.
